Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945) American politican, served as the 32nd President of the United States and was elected to four terms in office (1933-1945), becoming the only president to serve more than two terms.
One of the central figures of 20th century history, Roosevelt is best known for leading the United States through the Great Depression and for leading the Allies in World War II against Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan. A child of economic and social privilege, he overcame crippling polio to place himself at the head of the forces of reform. Universally called FDR, he was both loved and hated in his day. He is included among the top three by liberals and conservatives alike on lists of the greatest presidents.
